Tropical Storm Alberto continues to swirl off the Georgia and South Carolina coast, but Tropical Storm conditions are no longer expected on shore, so the Tropical Storm Watch has been cancelled. High surf and dangerous rip currents will continue to be a hazard along the coasts of Georgia, South Carolina, and northeastern Florida.

Alberto is moving toward the west-southwest near 6 mph but is expected to slow down and meander off the coast of Georgia and South Carolina through Monday. A northeastward acceleration is anticipated Monday night and Tuesday.

Tropical Storm Alberto is drifting toward the South Carolina coast this morning, but it is expected to gradually change direction toward the northeast later today. Tropical Storm force winds will be possible in parts of coastal South Carolina later today and Monday, so a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued.

Tropical Storm Alberto has formed off the coast of the Carolinas. Alberto is earliest-forming tropical storm in the Atlantic basin since Ana in 2003. This is also the first time that a tropical storm has formed before the official start of the hurricane season in both the Atlantic and East Pacific basins.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has indicated a Slight Risk for Severe thunderstorms today from the southern Plains northeastward into the lower Missouri River Valley. The primary threats are wind and hail, though a tornado or two cannot be ruled out this evening, especially for southern Okla. and northern Texas, as well as parts of southern Iowa and northern Missouri.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center is forecasting the development of a few strong, long-track tornadoes over parts of extreme southern Indiana, central Kentucky, and northern middle Tennessee later today and tonight. Elsewhere, severe storms and tornadoes are also possible from east-central/northeast Mississippi into central/northern Alabama and northern Georgia northward into southwest Ohio.
